HOW BORIS TRANSFORMED HIS FITNESS AT AGE 33

IMFITPRO 24 WEEKS TRANSFORMATION

FAT LOSS & MUSCLE BUILDING

Boris grew up playing sport seriously — competitive swimming through his teens, then football on weekends well into his late twenties, the kind of recreational athlete who still ran faster than most people who trained for a living. Fitness was never a project for him. It was just what he did.

That changed almost overnight when his father stepped back from the family business — a mid-sized manufacturing and distribution company — and handed Boris the keys, more or less all at once. There was no gradual transition. One month he was a department head with a predictable schedule; a few months later he was the one signing off on everything, fielding calls from suppliers at 9pm, sitting through finance meetings that ran long, and inheriting a level of responsibility nobody really hands you a manual for.

The football stopped first — Sunday games became Sunday catch-up sessions with his laptop. Then the gym visits, which had survived the initial chaos, started thinning out too: three times a week became once, then once became “whenever things calm down,” which never actually arrived. Within two years, Boris had put on close to twelve kilos, mostly around his midsection, and the guy who used to be the fittest person in any room had become someone who got out of breath walking up two flights of stairs to his own office.

What made it worse wasn’t just the hours — it was the guilt. Every time Boris tried to carve out time for training, some part of him felt like he was stealing it from the business, from his father’s legacy, from the employees depending on decisions only he could make now. He wasn’t lazy. He was drowning in a version of responsibility he’d never had to carry before, and fitness had become the first thing sacrificed whenever the week got tight — which was every week.

When Boris finally reached out, his opening line was almost an apology: “I don’t think I actually have time for this.” That became the real starting point — not a training plan, but a conversation about what his week actually looked like, hour by hour, and where fitness could realistically live inside it without becoming one more thing he’d inevitably drop.

We landed on early mornings — 6:15am, before his phone started ringing, before the first fire of the day needed putting out. It wasn’t Boris’s natural rhythm; he’d always trained in the evenings as an athlete. But evenings belonged to the business now, unpredictably and non-negotiably, while mornings were still his own. Four sessions a week, 50 minutes each, no exceptions unless he was traveling — and even then, we built a stripped-down hotel-room version of the program so travel weeks didn’t become write-offs.

Because Boris already had an athlete’s base — even a rusty one — we didn’t start him from zero. Early sessions focused on rebuilding movement quality and control he’d lost: single-leg work, rotational core exercises, mobility through his hips and shoulders, alongside moderate-load compound lifts to wake up strength that was still in there, just buried. As his conditioning came back, we shifted toward a mixed format — strength-based days built around squats, presses and pulling movements, paired with two shorter interval sessions using a rowing machine and assault bike, chosen specifically because they let him get real cardiovascular work done in twenty focused minutes rather than a drawn-out hour he didn’t have.

Eating was its own negotiation. Boris’s calendar was full of supplier lunches and dinners that came with the job — declining them wasn’t realistic, and we never asked him to. Instead, we worked on damage control: eating a protein-forward breakfast before those meals so he wasn’t arriving starving, choosing grilled over fried when there was a choice, and being honest that some weeks, two or three business dinners would land wherever they landed and that was simply the cost of the role. What mattered more was that the other 15–18 meals a week were dialed in.

The first month was about survival more than progress — just protecting that 6:15am slot against a calendar that kept trying to swallow it. A few sessions got missed to genuine emergencies, and instead of treating that as failure, we treated it as data: which weeks were unavoidable, which excuses were actually avoidable. By month two, the pattern had mostly stabilized, and something shifted — Boris started defending his mornings the way he used to defend a starting position on his old football team.

By month four, the physical changes were obvious. His waist had come down noticeably, his old swimmer’s shoulders were reappearing, and — more tellingly — he was setting personal bests on lifts he hadn’t touched in over a decade. But Boris says the bigger change happened somewhere he wasn’t expecting: in how he ran meetings. Clearer-headed, less reactive, less likely to let a bad supplier call ruin his whole evening.

By the end of the six months, Boris had dropped the extra weight and rebuilt a level of strength and conditioning he hadn’t had since his competitive years — but what he talks about most isn’t the transformation photos. It’s the fact that he finally has a version of his week where the business gets everything it needs, and so does he.

For Boris, this was never really about getting back the athlete he used to be. It was about proving that inheriting a company didn’t mean he had to give up the rest of himself in the process.
